Final Countdown!

The summer has gone by so quickly.  We are entering our last week of summer.  I've managed to hold the kids off until I wanted to start.  I think we are officially ready to start.  I have the final few things that I wanted to invest in to make our year a little smoother, as we will most likely be spending the next year in a rental.  I purchased a rolling cart, so we doing have to make a ton of trips to pull everything out and I can keep all my teaching stuff together in one place and not run back and forth.  We also invest in some cushions.  The kids spend a lot of time together and sometimes they need breaks or a quiet place to read.  We got a couple of foam couches for the kids.  They have been a hit so far and I am hoping they will make our school days a little better.

This week  was a kuk sool week.  We have been debating on moving Hyrum to the more advanced class and had decided that we were going to wait until the next round.  Well, things didn't work out how I planned.  After his Monday class, Tim was talking the instructor and a long story short Hyrum came home, slammed down dinner and left for the more advanced class.  He ended up doing two classes on Monday and one on Tuesday.  We have officially moved to two classes a week with a sparring class every other week.  It will be a little crazy trying to figure out the schedule, because Lila will start her evening ballet class in a month.

Other big news of the week that both Hyrum and Lila are very excited about is piano lessons.  We have been trying to figure out lessons for the two of them and finally settled on a place.  One great thing about homeschool is we can do lessons during the day instead of stacking everything in the evening.  They will take lessons in the morning one day a week.  They will start in a couple of weeks.

Probably the most exciting thing of the week was doing a late night with one of our favorite families.  The kids wanted to do sundaes with friends, so we ended up adding that with a late night with friends.  We've decided not to do sleepovers, but late nights.  We had friends come over around four to help make their own pizzas.  They ate, they played, they danced, they ate sundaes, and were generally load and crazy.  Tim wasn't used to the crazy, so he was a bit unnerved by it.  No one was really ready to leave at 8, but I would say it was a success.

Tim and I both had a very busy week with church responsibilities.  I feel like we are learning a lot about balancing compassion and they need to let people be more self-reliant.  Things continue to pick up with Tim at work.  Hopefully, the pace increases over the next year because he will move to an RVU based salary.

We continue to try to beat the heat.  We've been up in the triple digits again.  I'm looking forward to cooler weather in the fall.

Until next week!
