Bring on Fall!

I wouldn't say that we have hit fall yet, but maybe we are close enough.  We had slightly cooler weather during the day and much cooler weather at night.  It has been pleasant to go out walking in the evenings.  Unfortunately the sun is going down sooner, so our daylight hours are dwindling.

We started back up with school this week.  The kids did well.  It's amazing how much progress they have made.  I did some calculating and we have hit the end of October if we are comparing a tradition year to a year round model.  Liam had a fun moment this week.  He actually has lots of moments.  Some of them are fun, but a lot of them involve high emotions that are less than fun.  He started sounding out simple words.  I always love it when that light goes off and kids realize that all those letters they have been practicing have real meaning.

Hyrum is going through a phase of saying that he doesn't like school.  He usually will only say it at night when I remind him to get his routine done in the morning, because it's a school day.  He has this thing that he hates anything that interferes with what he perceives has his fun time.  I always tell him, "Welcome to real life!"  Playing constantly is an illusion and life is more about responsibility and doing things that we don't really want to do, but need to be done.

Lila's birthday was this week.  She has been counting down for about a month.  She was so excited that she had trouble sleeping the night before.  She is our child that falls asleep really fast and usually never comes out.  Well, she came out a couple of times and I just had to laugh.  She requested crepes for breakfast and pigs in a blanket for dinner.  I long for the day when the kids have a slightly elevated palate.  She requested chocolate brownies with chocolate frosting, chocolate ice cream and gummy worms.  I was like whatever girl!

She enjoyed opening presents first thing in the morning before Tim left and celebrating that evening.  Owen struggle to understand that it was Lila's day.  We had a lot of meltdowns with him wanting his birthday and brownies.  Lila was a good sport as usual and let him play with her gifts and be up close and personal with the candles.

We had all our usual weekly activities kuk sool, gymnastics, and story time.  The kids helped me clean out some of the garden.  I have decided that it's not worth it to try for a second harvest.  With our growing season we can usually get a second crop that is a little smaller before the first frost.  We have struggled so much this year that a lot of the plants just didn't look very good.

Saturday was Lila's friend party.  It was her first one.  I really hoping that we can somehow find a way to convince kids not to have friend parties.  I definitely channeled my inner 90s and did very minimal decorations, zero theme, simple treats, and generally let the kids just play.  She had a blast.  I was exhausted.  Large party gatherings aren't my thing, whether it's adults or kids.  She was very happy and I am glad she enjoyed herself and had lots of girls there.  I feel bad a lot that she has to tag along with boys and rarely gets to do what she wants, because it's too girly for the boys.  We also tend to have a lot of boys at church and at homeschool activities.

I had a 30 second appointment to tell me that everything looked good with baby boy.  It's crazy that we are getting so close.  The last half of this pregnancy has gone quickly.  The kids have started asking when he will come and are getting more excited.  We have a couple more weeks until I get started on baby prep.  The kids are going to get recruited to do some deep cleaning.  I'm fine with his because they are the ones touching the walls and making messes.

That's about all from us.  Until next week!
