The kids were very hyper all week. I
kept hearing what they were going to be for Halloween. We did our best to
stay academic, but it is difficult to keep kids focused with the prospect of
large amounts of sugar in their future.
Wednesday we went and watched Stephen and
Peter play a soccer game. It was fun to watch them play so well. We
went and ran at the RB and went home quickly, because I needed to make treats
for a funeral and drop them off at the coordinator's house. Wednesday was also an
exciting day at school because we were studying community helpers and we had
the firemen come to school. They kids loved it. The picture is of them
listening while they learn about different tools firemen use.
Tim had another late week at work, which
means we got home later. Next week we will be leaving before 7, because
he has an early week. We went to the temple on Tuesday, which is always a
pleasure. It was nice to leave the temple when it was dark and still have
it warm outside. I am hoping the warm weather lasts, but I am wondering
how long it will.
I managed to go running on Thursday. Tim went to a pre-med
meeting. He received an email about a ENT doctor coming and he thought he
would check it out. Thursday night I prepared for Halloween, by getting
my costume ready. I chose to be Pinkalicious this year and it was a hit.
For those of you who don't know who Pinkalicious is, she is a little girl
that loves pink. She eats too many pink cupcakes and she turns all pink.
The kids first thought I was a fairy, because of the wings and crown, but
when I gave them a hint about being a book character they figured it out.
The costume choice of this year's Halloween was definitely Elsa from
Frozen. I think all total we had 12 between the morning and afternoon.
My class won with five Elsas. Below is a video of teacher racing
some of the kids. It was harder than it looked, because the bag was so
small.
Friday night Carolyn and I went to look at
the new Life Sciences building on campus. It is massive and looks like
jungle inside, because it has tons of plants. They are in massive pots
and some of the trees they have are upwards of 15 feet tall. It is kind
of a cool building.
Saturday started off early with cleaning the chapel. It is our
ward's month to clean, so we went and helped. We then came home and
cleaned the apartment and worked on various projects until the evening.
We had tickets to go to the Royal Cambodian ballet, which was a lot of
fun. It is not the ballet we are used to seeing; it had a very distinct
oriental style. We learned about the history of the dances, because they
were originally performed in temples like at Angkor Wat. The form was almost
lost when the Khmer Rouge killed some many of the artists. They said that
before they came into power their was over 400 trained artists at the palace.
When the princess went to find the artists after Cambodia was liberated,
she only found about 40. They have worked a long time to research and
find the dances and train dancers. Tim said he enjoyed it so that was a
plus too. Oh, and speaking of princesses, we found out that the Prince of
Cambodia was touring with the company and he came out to speak to us. It is kind of cool that we can say that we have seen royalty.
This last picture is just of the sunset
before we left for the ballet. It was only there for a minute or two and
the picture doesn't really capture how the light was highlighting the
mountains, but it was beautiful.
