Weekend Adventure!

I'm sorry for the abnormally late post.  Today has been very busy.  Church was normal, but we had friends from our ward invite over for dinner tonight, and we got back late so that is the reason for the late post.

This week was normal for the most part.   Tim had a soccer game on Monday.  I hadn't been able to go in a while, so it was nice to go and support.  He played well.  There were two games.  The first was with guys and girls and the second was all boys.  There was definitely a difference in how physical the teams were.  I was sure someone was going to break something in the second game judging by how many people were on the ground injured.

And how could I forget...I had a doctor's appointment that went really well.  The doctor said that the baby is 2.5 pounds and in the 37% for growth meaning that he is healthy and there isn't a concern there.  We had a 4D ultrasound...didn't know they had those.  So, this is his first real picture!  I think the detail is amazing!  I had no idea we had technology like that.

But, that was pretty much all until Saturday, so I'm going to focus on our Saturday adventure.  We went to Galveston yesterday, and it was wonderful.  It was pretty much the first time we have escaped from Houston during the busy school year to enjoy ourselves.  We celebrate our anniversary in March, when we started dating, but Tim has exams and it was closer to the time the baby would come, so we decided to take time this weekend to celebrate and have a last outing before the baby comes.

Galveston is an hour south of Houston.  We arrived just after noon and started out by having lunch on the beach.  We were lucky.  It was supposed to rain during the day, but it rained early in the morning before the sun rose so we had really nice weather.  It was windy and in the 60s.  Lunch was on the beach.  I made pita bread a couple of days before so we had pita sandwiches.  It wasn't bad for a first attempt, but more tries are in order!  Tim isn't complaining either...

I decided to take off my shoes and was going to stroll along the beach because this was the first time I had been to the Gulf, but the water was cold so we will save that for a summer trip.  I made it to the water edge, but that is as far as I got.

After lunch, we strayed from our plan and got some Ben & Jerry's ice cream.  Tim had never had Ben and Jerry's before and I had only had it once or twice.  They had lots of flavors, but we both ended up with ice cream with lots of peanut butter and cookies in it.  It was really good.  Tim had quite a large cone, and he looked like an excited little boy enjoying his ice cream.

This was my favorite picture.  If you look carefully you will be able to see Tim's chocolate lips and nose.  He really liked it!

After our sugar rush, we drove around Galveston until we found the ferry.  It is a small island, and it was easy to find.  We parked our car and rode the ferry for the next 45 min or so.  The ferry was fun, but it was actually a little cold outside on the water with the wind so we spent most of the time inside.  We did get to see two dolphins which was exciting.  There are normally more out during the summer, but we were happy we saw even two.  There were several ships out in the Gulf of Mexico that looked like they were working oil, and we also saw a huge cruise ship docked.

Next, we went to Pelican Island.  It is a little island just off of Galveston, which is home to two WWII ships, well, a submarine and a destroyer escort.  Below are some pictures we took while touring the ships.  Tim decided that he could never be in the Navy because he just couldn't fit.  You can see below that it was challenging in some spots to get around...and I discovered that pregnant people should not be in the Navy either.

Favorite quote from Tim happened when we walked down into the sub and he was looking at the torpedoes and the bunk beds.  I asked him how he would like sleeping next to one and he looked at me and said, "Better than sleeping with a teddy bear!"

We ended the day with dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant.  It was recommended by a friend who had lived in Galveston for school.  Neither of us had, had food like this and we are definitely fans!  We both agreed that it was a type of meal you can eat without feeling sick afterwards.  We had two things from the menu, but shared, because the bowl below was huge.  We had a beef sandwich and this was a noodle dish with several types of meat and lots of veggies.

We made it home in good time for Tim to study some more and then head to bed!  Next week won't be as exciting, or have nearly as many pictures to show, but I am sure it will be filled with lots of studying and the routine life...which I never complain about!
