This week I flew solo starting on Monday afternoon. Mom and dad left on Monday to head back to Utah. Tim had an exam early in the morning on Monday. Hyrum and I chilled all day until Tim got home. The rest of the week was pretty routine. Well, kind of routine. Hyrum has started to sleep longer at night...not that I am complaining. He went from sleeping one hour to 2.5 hours between eating. Doesn't sound like much, but when you are sleep deprived an extra 1.5 hours is AMAZING!
In other news...his head is getting stronger. He is experimenting more while he is being burped with holding his own head up. We also started putting him on his stomach for a few minutes each day to play with him. As a teacher I was shocked every year at how much progress my students could make in such a short time. He seems to be learning and growing even faster! Every day I look at him and it seems he is bigger and makes some new noise...and if my sore muscles are correct, he is also gaining weight like a champ.
I forgot to post these pictures last week of him. This outfit is what Tim and all of his brothers and nephews have been blessed in. The blue jacket and slippers were made by a woman in Brazil where Tim's mother served her mission. Hyrum has a very long torso; he almost didn't fit in it!
Tim tried to study hard all week, but found that it was very distracting to have a baby in the house. His last exam was on Thursday. I went to pick him up after he finished. He had a look of relief. It is hard to believe that he is officially a year 2 medical student. One year down and three to go. He also found out that he will be the secretary for the Family Medicine club next year. He seems to be leaning in that direction...but we will have to wait and see.
Friday was a lazy day inside. We didn't do much, because it rained all day. It seems to be doing that a lot recently. The big ditch is filling up more frequently. Hopefully, we don't have any serious flooding.
Saturday was another relaxing day. Tim watched the baby in the morning, so I could get ready for the day, a luxury I didn't know was a luxury. I came out and they had both fallen asleep on the couch. If you look close at Hyrum you can see he has an arm behind his head. Hands behind his head is his favorite sleeping position.
Among other things this week we have also enjoyed his facial expressions. We caught this one while Tim was burping him. This is the look he gives when he is very satisfied. This usually followed by a smirk or grin and rolling his eyes. Those are harder to catch.
Saturday was also his first official bath...well second. He had a bath at the hospital, but up until Saturday we had only been wiping him down. His belly button had finally healed so that we could do a bath. It was quite the experience. We learned a few things. First, make sure you have everything you need close to the bathroom. We may have forgotten a thing or two, like a diaper and clothes. Second, babies squirm a lot, but it is important to move quickly because the water cools off fast. Which leads me into the final and most important lesson. Always keep boys covered. You can't get distracted, because when you do...that's when they will get you! Below is from his first official bath, very clean and slightly chilled.
Lastly, I would like to mention another first for us. Today I am doing laundry. I have never done laundry on a Sunday, but today we needed to. Hyrum decided to mess through his diaper, onesie, blanket, and sheet. Followed shortly by pottying on his new onesie, burp cloth, and blanket. What a kid!
