The week was much the same as always, but we were excited for the weekend. Tim had another conference in Austin this time, so Hyrum and I tagged along. Tim continues to study for STEP and finals. His finals begin next week and will last for a month. He should be done in mid-May. I did the work thing and Hyrum did his baby thing.
Hyrum is getting better at saying bye-bye, pointing to objects, turn taking in a conversation, switching directions while walking, squatting and picking things up, and our least favorite declaring independence and preference. Usually the declaration takes the form of a half yell, half cry while reaching for whatever he wants. I was officially informed this morning that I have to change the location of my bags in the morning, because they now cause quite the ruckus with a certain someone. Here's the the next phase of parenting!
Friday night we went to a student craw-fish boil. I ate all the craw-fish and Tim had the hot dogs. After dinner we gave Hyrum and bath and drove to Austin. We made great time to the hotel. Unfortunately, the transition to the crib for Hyrum was not as smooth. He ended up in bed with us after an hour and half of waking up every few minutes to cry. I have to say a king size bed is not big enough for three, especially when one person likes to sleep horizontally. I ended up right on the edge with a head in my stomach.
After we got going in the morning, we took Tim to the conference and Hyrum and I went to meet up with some friends that live in Austin. We visited a park with trails, the Mayfield house, and the highest point in Austin.
Hyrum loved the water. I had to keep a hand on him because he would have walked right into the water. He really like the peacocks. I think because of their size he really got the idea of bird, because he could see them.
At the highest point in Austin we were able to look out over the city. It was kind of cool. Austin isn't as big as Houston, but it is spread out over a wide area where as Houston is condensed.
Gotta love the frown!
After we finished up with adventuring, we drove back to the hotel and tried to entertain Hyrum with food and driving.
Tim enjoyed the conference. There are always ups and downs to each one, but I think he always leaves with more things to consider and think of for his future career. We were all tired at the end of the day and ready to get back to Houston. Hyrum transitioned much better to his crib and thankfully went right back to his normal sleeping routine.
Sunday was a big day for us. We have been waiting several weeks for our special stake meeting. Rumors were flying about what was going to happen. We got there extra early so we could get a good seat. We were very impressed with the Stake President. He spoke for several minutes about the difference between the gospel and the church. Wards/church are created to help us live and learn the gospel which is true no matter what ward you are in. They were very delicate about feelings and how it might impact different people. There was a collective rustling of papers as they put up the new map.
In a nutshell, they created two new wards. To do it, they pulled a a branch from another stake and changed a bunch of boundaries. Student housing where we live was basically cut out of our current ward and placed in an already existing ward. It should be interesting next Sunday as we show up to a new ward. Tim and I are going to enjoy the next couple of Sunday without early morning meetings and getting to know new people. Our old bishop called to say good-bye to us and said not to get too comfortable, because there is work to be done in our next ward.
That's all from us! We will let you know how next Sunday goes.
