This was Tim's last week with the family medicine rotation. He took the exam on Friday, which was really difficult. I guess the exam covers a lot of material and there aren't too many resources to help students study. But, he made it through and started Spring Break!
Hyrum and I did our normal things of going to the library, shopping, and cleaning. We did fit in a lot of baking and cooking as well...mostly in preparation for the weekend.
Thursday we baked chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. We took some over to a sister I visit teach, because she had a sick child, and honestly cookies make life better when your child is sick. We also went out side to play like normal, but found huge sand piles, which was not normal. Hyrum had a blast digging and getting dirty. I had a meeting that night, which made for a late night.
On Friday we made bagels. They were my first attempt and they turned out tasty, just not the prettiest. We watched a tutorial on how to make traditional bagels. We opted not to make them traditionally. :) We did learn to "shmear (think of a New York accent)." The gentleman who did the tutorial said that you had to "shmear" it with cream cheese, so Hyrum and I practiced saying the word all day.
Friday, Tim took a classmate to the airport early in the morning. It was a good thing he did because we discovered heavy traffic, which would have made things more difficult had we not known before leaving for Galveston. We made great time. The weather was windy and overcast, but we didn't spend too much time on the beach, just enough to eat our bagel sandwiches and cookies. A funny side note, Hyrum is getting very independent. Tim tried to hold him, but he insisted that he needed to squat down, so we ended up with what you see below.
Our main purpose was to visit the Strand, which the main street of Galveston. It is very close to the port where all the cruise ships come in. We took a look at some old buildings and did the touristy thing. I really wanted to visit a candy store that makes old fashion candy. We watched them pull taffy with machines that were over 100 years old.I thought it was really cool. They had tons of variety and Hyrum enjoyed looking around.
We made it home without too much trouble, especially since there is major construction close to our house that backed traffic up for miles. Hyrum took a nap on the way home. We played the rest of the day and ended with the ceremonial turning of the car seat. Hyrum is officially forward facing!
The downside to the weekend was that Hyrum was running a fever. We have been trying to avoid all the nastiness that has been going around. I thought we had made it, but he has a really bad cough and a runny nose. We stayed home from church for him and because I caught I mild form of what he had.
Tim has been talking about Mexican food and that one day when he is old all he wants is Mexican food. I made burritos for dinner this week. It is a little hard to tell, but we have the three bears burritos. Tim's are the biggest on the left, mine are on the right, and the baby bear burritos are on the bottom. It thought it was cute.
