Park week!

Happy father's day!  We celebrated Tim by making him sick... not literally, but he did eat too much.  We started off the day with monkey bread.  Thankfully, we are a five minute walk to church...less if Hyrum decides to run. We had hummus and smoothies for lunch.  I had never made it before, but Tim really liked it.  We did a little spice experimenting and ended up with regular, turmeric, cayenne, and curry.  All very tasty.  We ended with wraps for dinner. Fortunately/unfortunately, Tim's birthday is a week away.  Let's hope he can recover for the next round of food.

Lila turned 9 months.  Time has gone by much faster with her.  In some ways she is way ahead of Hyrum at this age and others she is behind.  She is pulling herself up and taking steps to the side.  Hyrum was just starting to army crawl.  Hyrum was working on teeth five and six, while Lila has two.  I think the top are closer, but it will probably be another month before they actually come in.  We feel she doesn't handle teething as well as Hyrum.  Several times a week she will wake up between 3 and 5 in the morning screaming.  She also takes shorter naps during the day, but is mostly happy when she is moving around.

In the last week we have seen a language explosion with her.  She knows her name and if you call her she will stop and look at you.  She also started saying mama, dada, and baba (brother).  I don't think she has attached the words to us as a name, but she is saying them regularly.  She also has an ornery streak.  She loves to go after cords and trash cans.  We will say no to her and for a moment she will stop, cock an eyebrow, smile, and then keep on going.  It's super hard to be mad at her dimpled smile. She is also getting really good at turning pages.  She has no attention span for sitting and looking.  She is more of a mover than Hyrum and he was CRAZY!

I think we are going to be lucky with a good eater.  Lila hasn't put up much of a fuss about food.  She is pretty much on big people food, except for eating baby oatmeal for breakfast.  She had watermelon for the first time and couldn't get enough.  She has also tried black beans, bread, egg, and lunch meat.  Along with a variety of fruits and vegetables. She doesn't eat as much as Hyrum did...thankfully!

Hyrum had a busy week.  Hopefully, he isn't disappointed this week as Tim will be officially working.  Monday, he went to a play group and ran around for an hour.  He is so social and loves to find "friends."  Typically he gravitates to the older crowd and does a good job of sharing and playing along.

We continued to explore parks this week.  Hyrum made it to three new ones this week and went back to the blue park.  Chapel Hill really does have great parks.  They are so close and well taken care of.    Hyrum managed to find kids to run around with at each.  On the day he went back to the blue park, I got a text from Tim saying that he was going to be very tired as he had been running around with middle school kids for the last hour.  I was a little concerned, but Tim said they were great with Hyrum and he overheard one of the boys say that since Hyrum was leaving there was no point in staying, so he was going home.  I don't know where he gets from.

He also got invited to a birthday party.  It was perfect for him.  He got to run around with kids, ate hot dogs, and had ice cream cake.  All the things he loves best in the world.

Like I said, I hope he isn't too disappointed this week, because now that Tim is in the hospitals, we won't be going out as much due to naps.

Tim had his first day on Friday.  He likes his co-residents and the feel of the program.  There will be a huge learning curve for him, but he is up to the challenge.  He spent a lot of time outside with Hyrum checking out the parks.  He is on a mission to visit all the parks and to know his way around Chapel Hill.  He didn't feel like he really knew his way around Houston.  I think he is well on his way!  He has one more week of orientation and then he will begin in the hospitals...on his birthday.

I made it to a couple of the parks.  When I wasn't out, I was on nap duty with Lila.  I also was able to wash and vacuum the car this week.  It needed a second wash and a good vacuum.  I am slowly learning names of the moms and my way around.  I have been really enjoying the weather.  It has been down in the high 50's at night and 70's during the day.  I know it won't last, but we are half way through June and I am told that it starts cooling off in August.  We were extend calls today...through email.  We should be sustained next week as primary teachers.  I'm super excited!  This will be the first time we have been official primary teachers.  I subbed a few times before I was called into the presidency, so this will be a fun change of pace.  I'm just really excited to be working with kids.

Any who...until next week!
