Baking, birds, and bouquets!

What a week!  We had some amazing weather all week, so we spent some time outside each day just soaking up what warmth we could before cooler temperatures come back.  Probably the highlight of the week was the pumpkin.  Hyrum has been asking when we were going to get our pumpkin and carve it.  Last year we did it too early and ended up with a moldy mess long before Halloween ever came.  We picked up our pumpkin this week and waited until the weekend to carve it.  Sadly, it still developed a moldy spot, but Tim worked some magic.  I guess it is just my luck!

Here is the finished product.  The design was all Hyrum and Tim did the carving.  Hyrum really wanted spooky eyes and a mouth, and this is what he came up with.  They had fun pulling goo out and watching Tim's knife skills developed over four years of medical school and one year of residency.

Tim had a lighter schedule last week and this week.  He is doing a self-guided rotation.  He spends most of the day at the church working through his information.  The kids have enjoyed him being home in the morning and in the evening for dinner.  He has this week and then will be off for two weeks when hopefully the baby decides to make an entrance sooner rather than later.

Hyrum continues to rock his preschool.  He really loves getting on and doing the activities.  There are some that have become his favorite to practice his skills.  He spent plenty of time this week being creative as well.  I had to conduct a Relief Society zoom meeting, while Tim was taking care of clerk "stuff."  Hyrum built himself a car maze out of popsicle sticks that was taller than Goliath.  I was grateful he let me focus and that Lila slept through most of the meeting.  The picture on the right was from school.  Hyrum loves learning about the body and Tim loves sharing.  After a lesson on what happens to our food, Hyrum decided that he would be the teacher and I would be the student.  He made a magna-tile person to help teach me about the body.  It's funny to see the mannerisms and how he teaches, some he totally gets from me.

Tim and I are super proud of Hyrum's progress with his new coping skills.  I mentioned a week or two ago and for a while that he has issues with big emotions.  There is lots of yelling, crying, fussing, and general loudness.  After a lot of thought and many prayers, we finally realized that we needed to be teaching him coping skills for anger and frustration.  He tends to go right to the fight or flight mode and can't seem to calm himself.  We had a rocky start with practicing counting, but by the end of the week he seemed to get the hang of it and calmed down in no time at all.  We are going to start the next strategy on Monday and I am hoping he does just as well and that he picks it up faster now that he knows we mean business about stopping all the yelling and crying.

Saturday, Tim took Hyrum to a ward service project.  Unfortunately, Hyrum didn't get a chance to be as involved as we envisioned, but he still had fun playing with dirt, sticks and falling in the water.  Saturday they also finished their bird house.  I forgot to take a picture of it, but Tim nailed it to a tree.  Hyrum had so much fun participating in all the cutting and nailing.

Lila continues to drive me nuts!  She wants to be a helper, but most of the time she isn't.  Tim keeps telling me to stay patient for a few more years and it will all be worth it.  She really just wants to help and be in on all the action.  She continues to practice her words and has really started developing a funny sense of humor.  Some of the things you just had to be there for the beginning of the inside joke.  My personal favorite right now is she will come and find me and say, "Whutcha doin' Hans?"  It's just super funny.  With the nice weather we took a walk while the boys were at the service project.  She decided that she wanted to make a fall bouquet with all the beautiful leaves.

Here is the 38 week baby picture.  I am very ready to be done with this pregnancy.  We are pretty much ready.  I did some baking this week to put in the freezer.  We made butterscotch chocolate chip cookies, ginger muffins, and brownies. This coming week we will be doing a deeper clean on the apartment, so I will be able to take it easy for a couple of weeks.  I have already done a lot of cleaning, so this is just a deeper clean of the basics. That's all from us!
