Merry Christmas!

Christmas finally came to North Carolina.  Tim finished up work on Monday and came home in time to see the kids before bed.  There was much excitement from the kids.  They had been waiting forever for Christmas.  Tim and I decided to do Christmas Eve as well, so Tuesday we had Christmas Eve.  We started doing a Bethlehem dinner last year, which was fun, so we did it again.  Both kids enjoyed sitting on the floor eating pretending to be wise men.  We try to do simple foods they would have had in Bethlehem.  It because a little more involved, as I had to make the flat bread.  I went with a wheat tortilla recipe that turned out well.  The kids set out their stockings and went to bed.

Hyrum was up bright and early...so was Liam.  He was very excited with all his gifts.  He was also very excited for all the other stockings.  The favorites where money for Hyrum and Lila got a baby stroller, that goes with her everywhere.

We did breakfast and got ready...well some of us got ready.  Mom and dad struggled to keep up with the kids, so we were in our pajamas until much later.  Liam chilled with us on the floor while the kids started opening gifts.

There was so much excitement.  Hyrum has been asking for a remote control car for ages, so we decided to get him one.  Funny sidenote...Hyrum went with Tim several weeks ago to Walmart.  They were discussing what Hyrum wanted for Christmas and Hyrum talked about his dream remote control car that was blue.  Tim came home and told me and we had a moment of panic.  As you can see, the color didn't seem to effect his excitement.

Lila learned how to rip paper and enjoyed opening her gifts.  She is still in the in between phase of not really understanding, and being more focused on the paper.

The rest of the day was spent playing with toys and mom and dad running interference between fighting kids.  We had a special Christmas dinner turkey, rolls, potatoes and gravy, green beans cranberry salad and chocolate pie.  It was a bit touch and go...I definitely didn't have my A game on.  I have made a turkey several times, but this was the first time that I cooked it the wrong way (breast down).  I made rolls that I needed to pop in after taking out the turkey and apparently I turned off the oven and the rolls baked on the outside instead of the inside.  Luckily, everything turned out okay and no one got food poisoning.

Thursday was a recovery day.  We didn't do much except for play outside in the beautiful weather.  It was supposed to rain the rest of the week, so we tried to get as much outside time as possible.

Friday Tim took Lila to the craft store to get some wood to replace the support boards under their bunk bed.  She had a ton of fun and both kids were happy to help get everything in place.  We didn't do anything to bring in the New Year except try to get to bed earlier.  Sleep is at a premium around here...at least for me.

Saturday, the kids continued to play with toys, fight over toys, play nicely together, and Hyrum and I went to Walmart, so he could use his money to buy something.  He has been learning about money and wanting to buy something, or have us buy something for him.  He was singing quite loudly in the store proclaiming his excitement for buying a toy.  He ended up with a monster truck and a giant candy bar.

Tim has one more day off and then he will be back in the hospital.  I am not ready to be flying solo again.  Liam has been having some trouble at night being up for multiple hours.  I really don't like being awake between the hours of midnight and 6 am.  Liam has other ideas.  Despite the hours we are up at night he has really started to be more alert during the day.  The alertness has brought some very fun interactions.  He has started smiling and talking much more.  We discovered that he has two dimples.  He reminds we of Hyrum in the way he smiles and makes sounds.  His tummy troubles are getting a bit better.  We still have some issues, but they aren't as bad as they were.  This week we also tried transitioning him to laying down during his naps.  He had some great naps and not so great naps.  Until now, he has done naps in the carrier, but he is getting too heavy to carrying around all day.

Next week should be interesting.  Hopefully, we can make it to Tim's day off.

All sign off with wishing everyone a happy new year!  Here's to a better/less eventful year than 2020!
