The Great Flood of 2021

Well, some times when it rains it pours...literally.  We had such high hopes for the week, but it ended up being a wash.  All puns aside, I am sure you are wondering what happened.

Monday was Tim's last day in Raleigh.  I was able to get almost all the unpacking done and the kids were settling in meeting lots of new kids that are in the ward.  We drove Tim to the airport Tuesday morning, so he could bring back his parent's car for us to use while they are serving a two year mission.  Before leaving, I put in a load of laundry, because the day previous I discovered the dryer wasn't working, so all our clothes needed to hang dry before use.  We were gone for about an hour and when we opened the door, I heard a loud fountain sound.  I rain in and immediately saw water on the floor and falling for the ceiling fixtures in the kitchen and family room.

Luckily, there was a maintenance man right outside and I ran to get him to help.  The washer wasn't installed properly and the hose came off and was pushing water out for probably and hour.  You can't see very well, but the carpet was squishy from wall to wall.  The dark spot was where it was falling from the ceiling.

He helped me get furniture outside and set up trash cans and pots to catch water.  It took several hours for the water to finish draining from the upstairs.  Management has been very helpful in getting things fix quickly.  They had people out to suck up the water, take out the pads, and set up fans and dehumidifiers.  The only downside was the kid and I were stuck on the third floor for sleeping and outside for all other playing.  The upside was that the place where we live has five LDS families, so we had lots of kids to play with outside and so many people offered to help.  Day one was overwhelming, but the rest of the week was made much easier having a place for naps, meals provided, and people willing to keep an eye on the kids so I could talk to workers and get things moved and taken care of.

Tim came back as fast as he could to the craziness.  They ended up needing to take out a large section of the ceiling.  We had eight fans and two dehumidifiers running for three days.  Friday the carpet people came to get the floors taken care of, which made everything easier.  The kids had a place to sleep other than on our bedroom floor and a place to play other than the dirt outside.

We should be back to normal on Monday afternoon after they put texture on the ceiling.  Then I will be able to get things put back in place and then finish unpacking.  It will be so nice to get the kids in a normal routine.

Hyrum had to skip a lot of preschool, but he is starting to figure out bigger words like pancake and waffle.  Lila has enjoyed exploring all the mud and dirt around out new townhouse.  I have done more laundry for her this week because she tends to get it from head to toe.  Liam's second tooth came in and he is a moving all over the place.  He likes to roll all over the floor and he has started pushing up like he wants to crawl.  It will be a while yet, but he just wants to move.  He still struggles a lot of spitting up and frequently wakes up a night.  I am hoping that we can work on his sleep struggles once we get settled.  We just keep hoping that things will change with his spit-up.

Tim will start nights next week and it will be night for him to be upstairs away from the kids and not sharing a sleeping space with Liam.

Here's to a dryer week!
