Short and Sweet!

Due to the craziness of the night, I almost forgot to update the blog.  Better late than never!  Overall it was a good week.  Tim finished nights and so, it's always kind of off as we get used to having Tim home during the day and more in general.

Now you may be wondering about the craziness, and it all started with a chimichanga.  Lila helped decided the menu this week and so we made them.  Liam is showing a real affinity for Mexican food.  Tim is excited that he might just have a child who shares his love of Mexican food.  Liam ate his chimichanga in record time and than some of Tim's and then some more of dinner.  He was great until we laid him down and then he cried.  After about a half and hour dinner came back up, twice, and it took a while to get everything cleaned up and Liam settled.  He was over tired and fighting sleep.  What an end to an already crazy day.

Last Sunday wasn't our shiniest Sunday.  Unfortunately, it was just the boiling point of several different things that have been building for some time.  Due to the downright awful behavior we started working on being okay with church and sharing being first.  The kids now have specific days of the week they are first.  They practice being a good sport being first and being a good sport not being first.  They did alright for most of the week.  We still had issues, but the crying and screaming was all short lived because they knew they would have a turn the next day.

Hyrum in particular doesn't like going to church.  One of the things we are running into a lot is he doesn't like going because he knows all the answers and he says it's boring.  I feel like his kindergarten year has been a steep learning curve for him and us as parents.  There are so many things he has had to adjust to and this is just one more thing that has really hit him hard.  The stress levels were way down this week leaving for church, so hopefully we continue to see positive improvement.  He continues to enjoy going to his first grade reading class.  I was able to talk with the teacher and she says that he is doing very well and he doesn't seem to be having any issues.  He also got the royal treatment this week on the bus.  Normally, I track his bus on an app, so I know when to take him to the bus stop and run out to pick him up.  It hasn't been working and several times this week I was heading out only to see the bus drive up to our front door for Hyrum to get off.  Kindergarteners have to be picked up by adults and if they aren't there the bus has to wait.  He also did some building this week, and was really proud of his tower that was taller than him.

Lila continues to love letters and pointing them out.  She is getting into retelling stories and it is so funny to listen to her voice as she retells the pictures.  This is always the exciting phase for me, because you know they are getting ready to read!  She has graduated from her potty training reward.  She used to get to play some educational games after going poop, but I declared her officially trained as she can go by herself now.  I am relieved to be over this stage, but we still have a long way to go with night time training.  She has started waking up dry from her naps, so I am getting ready to try waking her up again to go potty at night.  Previously, she would have already gone or I would sit there with her for 10+ minutes with no results.  She loves swimming and is always smiling.  Both she and Hyrum have made some great improvements each lesson.  She also loves sunbeams, which is great!  She is also becoming a fantastic dinner menu planner.  For the last couple of weeks she has chosen the dinners and it's fun to see her connect the meal she chose with what she is eating.  It's also really nice for when we hear, "Not, again!"  I can say, that she chose it!

Liam had a good week despite a hard night.  He is getting faster on his feet and he is slowly increasing his speed.  He is getting into cars and zooming them...right under the stove.  This week he discovered that if he slides back to the sink and rolls it really hard it will still go under.  He has developed a love for pretzels, which he still calls "cackers."  He also learned to say go, go as he go, goes fast.  He has had a growth spurt recently, so I had to move him to the next size.  I am expecting great things at his next appointment.

Speaking of appointments.  Hyrum and Lila had dentist appointments this week.  It was Lila's first time  and she loved it.  I was really surprised how she talked with the dentist.  Usually, she doesn't say anything, but she answered questions and waved good-bye.  I can't remember if I had mentioned this, but I have notice that she is starting to get better at talking in public.  I have yet to get her to say hi at the grocery.  Both kids did great with sitting.  There were some difficulties getting x-rays for Hyrum, but he powered through.  Liam was in the stroller the whole time and was a champ.  He mostly relaxed and watched what was happening around him.  I guess I should mention that this was at the UNC dental school, so there were plenty of students and teachers walking by chatting and commenting on his eye lashes and dimples.

I have been working on exercising more.  It always takes me a while to get back into it after having a baby and it seems to take longer with every child we add.  I have been doing some Pilates and talking walks with the kids.  The goal is to work up to jogging again.  I haven't really done much jogging since I stopped while pregnant with Liam, so it's been a while.  Tim is in the middle of taking STEP 3.  It's a two day test and Monday will be his last day.  He has been doing some last minute studying, so hopefully we can have him for more than just a brief dinner visit this coming week.

Until next week!
