I feel like I needed some background music for this week. I didn't have tons to do, but I spent time most afternoons getting the final prep done for school to start on Monday. I think we are ready. Hyrum leaned over to Tim during church today and declared that he is so excited. I'm not sure if he is more excited for school or for the fact that we will be done by noon every day. Lila is pretty excited too. Her preschool won't be nearly as intense has Hyrum, but she will have activities to do every day.
Before I get going with the rest of the update, I just wanted to pause and share a recent discovery. As I have mentioned before, Hyrum is really into Pokémon. This week he was trying to draw some and in his frustration asked if I could do it. Keep in mind that I am strictly a stick person artist, but gave it a whirl. Low and behold and new talent was discovered...I can draw Pokémon! Look them up...be impressed. From left to right you have Eevee, Pikachu, and Raboot.
As previously mentioned, Hyrum is excited for school to start. Hopefully, he will grow and learn this year, but mostly mature. He continues to read Pokémon and dream of the day in which he can find and trade Pokémon cards and watch the cartoon. Oh the simple pleasures. I'm pretty sure he asked both Tim and I multiple times this week if he could have trading cards for his birthday.
Lila is excited to start preschool as well. She continues to try to help and often comes across and bossy. Hyrum can frequently be heard saying, "Stop trying to be my mom." She has a good heart. She has surprised me the past couple of weeks with some of her progress with letter identification and counting. We haven't really done anything since ending last year, so this is just want she has picked up as we have read and daily interactions. She proudly showed us her coloring from primary today, but Tim and I were shocked when we saw her name. She has been writing 'L' upside down, but she clearly wrote her name and that is the first time that she did it. She has also almost learned the months of the year. Hyrum wanted to learn them, so I taught him a song and she has kind of picked it up with him.
Liam is talking so well. He continues to make connections with words and that words have power. We are always surprised at what he will communicate and understand. Today clear as a bell, he saw me leaving early for the primary room and said, "Mama come." He is joining the ranks of the other two in the kitchen and loving to be in on the action. We have run out of room for chairs and stools and an adult that actually cooks. He has also discovered coloring. The older two have left out markers and pencils this week and mom has had to clean up walls and now has a book with illustrations by Liam. We had a very serious chat about putting our things away so Liam can't get them.
We also managed to go swimming this week. The temperatures have gone down by about 10 degrees, so we are having to brave the water. The kids still love it and we are going to milk it for all it's worth until the pool closes. Tim took the older two on a little hike this week, while I took Liam to his first birthday party. A little boy from nursery turned two and it was a fun simple party. Liam discovered that he likes muddy buddies. Tim also made dinner with the kids today. In honor of cooler weather/wanting fall to come earlier they made pumpkin pancakes with buttermilk syrup. Hyrum helped with a lot of the mixing and both enjoyed the turning of the pancakes. For as much as Tim loves the chocolate and peanut butter combination, he sure makes a lot of pumpkin things.
Tim's schedule is starting to pick up. He had a high school football game this week with injury clinic Saturday morning. This week he will be adding NCC state training room and next week will be UNC football. He attended the UNC/BYU women's soccer game this week. He enjoyed watching them play because they are both very good teams. He kept the fact that he is BYU alum a secret because apparently athletes are superstitious. UNC won. He'll keep this a full schedule until December when UNC football is finally over.
I'll have a full report next week about school...if we survive!
