Another week has gone by. The weather has cooled off and the kids are out more, which is really nice to not have them cooped up in the house. They spent lots of time jumping on the trampoline, biking and scootering and playing at the playground. We have finished our fifth week of school and I have planned the next six weeks of our school. I am trying something different this year. Instead of planning every week, I am planning and prepping six weeks at a time. It's a lot to get everything out every week and write stuff down, but so far I am liking doing it every six weeks. It allows me to evaluate where the kids are and make changes.
Changes for Hyrum will be to move faster in math. He does so well and picks concepts up that I am going to spend the next six weeks doubling up lessons. We'll see where he is at the end and adjust as needed. Lila retained a lot of her math and letters and sounds from last year. I am going to move her ahead faster as well. I am going to see if we can't finish her preschool curriculum in December or January and have her in easy readers for the rest of preschool. It's fun to see how far they have come and adjust to meet their needs.
Liam is slowly, very slowly, learning to be independent during school. We have a lot of trouble with him bothering the other two when they are doing school. I try to have him settled with an activity, but it's a slow learning process for him. He is also working on staying in bed at night and when he wakes in the middle of the night going right back to bed. He tends to be up for multiple hours in the middle of the night. He wakes up for various reasons, but always has a hard time settling. Between Owen and Liam Tim and I never seem to have enough sleep.
All the kids struggled to play nicely this week. Several times this week I instituted alone time. They would pester each other to the point that I had enough, so they all got separated to play by themselves, which none of them like. Our kids are so weird! They don't like being alone and complain about not having anyone to jump with or not having anyone to share a room with. But, they clearly needed time to reset!
Owen had a weight check this week at Lila and Liam's appointment. I think we are finally done with doctor appointments for a couple of months. The older two are doing great. Lila was amazing for shots. She yelped twice and after it was done, she was fine. She ended up having a reaction and spent the rest of the day on the couch feeling yucky. She was back in action the next day. Owen had a major growth spurt and jumped to the 30th percentile. The doctor doesn't seem too worried any more, so we will just keep doing what we are doing. He also seems to have had a developmental jump. He is supporting himself really well sitting and this week he started getting on all fours rocking. He is all over the floor now and can roll and wiggle with amazing speed. It will be interesting to see how fast he learns to crawl and walk. He also started chattering sounds. It usually happens when he is upset. Hopefully he learns soon to chatter at more pleasant times.
Tim and I were able to attend the Bentonville temple dedication. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to go, but the stars aligned with Owen and I was able to attend one of the sessions. It was a great reminder of the importance of the temple and where our focus should be. We watched some kids of another family so the parents could attend with their 8 year old, so it was a busy fun morning with friends.
