The rain was intense this week. We found ourselves inside for most of the week, which was a bummer since it was our Spring break. We were outside on Monday and Tuesday working in the "garden." The rest of the week was just rain. We had some storms, but nothing too bad. I am amazed at the thunder we can get here. After living in Houston, I don't think any place has thunder as crazy as Houston, but Fort Smith is a close second.
The kids enjoyed slower mornings. We school in the mornings, so we are typically moving to get through school. I let the kids stay in the pajamas later and play. I enjoyed a slower pace too. We only have about six more weeks of school that are going to go fast. It's crazy to think that I am finishing up my third year homeschooling. At my present rate, I'll retire from teaching at about the time I would be thinking of retiring if I had stayed in public school.
We had all our normal extra curriculars this week, which was nice to have some things to keep us moving. I am glad we are winding down for the year on those as well. We spend a lot of time on the road or sitting in the van. I'd much rather be doing other things, but such is this phase of life.
My big goal this week was to work on garden bags. I was able to get most of them done, but due to weather I was unable to finish everything. I bought a lot of bags of dirt last week and a lot of bags of compost this week. It was really funny, because I was scrambling to get everything done before the rain. I wanted to at least have the compost, so I could finish up next week when it was warmer. I had to do it in the evening while Hyrum was at Kuk Sool. I had the car, which Tim drives. I packed it was compost/manure. The kids were asking what manure was and I told them it was fancy for cow poop. Of course they all wanted to see the cow poop. Poor Tim looked slightly green when he realized that I had used the car to haul it all home. His response, "Why don't we have a truck?" I keep saying the same thing!
We ended the week with conference. It's always a marathon weekend, but in a good way. We try to make it fun for the kids and hopefully, one day they will learn to love listening as well. In the meantime we have to deal with all the wiggles and fighting. We made biscuits and gravy for breakfast, which is always a favorite. I switch the biscuits up with a 50/50 white and wheat combination. It was a spur of the moment decision that turned out really well. The kids didn't complain and Tim really liked them. He enjoys wheat products. I also made some bagels for bagel sandwiches. We typically do pizza, but Hyrum wants pizza for his birthday, I was trying to switch things up.
That's about all from us. After our random freezing temperatures tonight, the weather should be warmer. I am hoping to get plants in the pots by the end of the week, because they really need to be in bigger containers!
