It was a beautiful Spring week, for which I was grateful. The kids enjoyed plenty of outside time playing and we were able to get some garden bags done. We also had some cooking adventures that were delicious.
A couple of weeks ago I had to buy some compost to try to help my garden bags. The scorpion dirt just wasn't cutting it. We finally had a nice week of weather, so this week the goal was to get the bags done. Lila and Liam helped with quite a bit of the mixing, but two hours of heavy lifting is a bit much for kids so young. I was grateful for the help they gave. Owen cooperated with an amazing nap and we were able to make it through 12, 10 gallon pots and 12 five gallon pots. It was a lot of dirt and I felt it for days. I'm getting old! Gardening wasn't as smooth this year, but I feel like I learned a lot. One of the biggest take aways is as long as we are in this house, I won't be starting plants. We don't have a great set up for growing and I am really struggling to get the plants hardened off without burning them. I may end up having to replace most of my plants. We started off so well, but it's been struggle for several weeks now.
All the kids continue to do well in school, but it's time for an extended break. We have four weeks left, which is crazy to me. We are starting to complete curriculum, which means their school days get shorter That is always an added bonus this time of year. Liam is really starting to gain confidence in school. We still have plenty of, "I can't do it!" I have found that I just have to keep at it with him and then almost trick him into doing it by himself. I wish I didn't, but it is what it is. He is really good in Math. All the kids are really talented in math...they didn't get it from me. Lila reads to everyone, which is really nice. I can't always read like I used to and she will read to Liam just about any where. Hyrum has been working on angles and has decided that he likes angles. I'm like great...whatever floats your boat!
Hyrum sometimes likes to help me meal plan. Sometimes it's a little more than I bargain for, because I go for quick and easy. He likes to go through our kid cookbooks and choose what looks good, which doesn't mean quick and easy. He wanted to make caprese paninis. He helped me to make the bread and build all the sandwiches. Sometimes he gets a little ahead of himself and thinks that he can make everything himself. He's learning that some things are a little more involved, but once you get it you get it. He kept telling Tim that they could make bread together now. I chuckled at that one. All the kids enjoyed it, but I think Tim and I appreciated it the most. They turned out so good! We have a few more of his dishes coming up this week, so we will see if they are hits too.
That's about all from us. Here's to another warm week!
