Water Fun!

Our week days are pretty slow, but our weekends seem to be packed.  I think we have a good homeschool routine.  We have officially switch back to a.m. school and that has worked out really well.  The afternoons are still difficult, because of the intense heat.  The kids are cooped up inside because the heat has been so bad.

We go every week to the library and story time has been really fun this summer.  This week they did a theme of the ocean.  They had a shark come and visit for story time, which was really funny.  Some of the kids were super pumped and other not so much.  Owen being one of the kids who didn't like the shark.

The garden has been struggling with all the heat.  There have been lots of issues this year with the rain and then the heat and now we have bugs.  We haven't gotten any big batches of tomatoes, so I have been freezing them has the come in.  The plan is to can a bunch of sauce when I have enough.  This week I happened to have enough to make a batch of salsa.  I have never canned salsa before, but it turned out really good.  The kids tested the pico version before cooking and they really liked it.  The final product was really tasty as well.  There are some tweaks I think I will make for next time.  We got 9 pints of salsa out of it.  About the only thing that is doing well in the garden is the jalapenos.  I've pretty much used what I need, so I am going to have to figure out what to do with the rest.

Owen has had a language explosion.  He is now speaking more clear and in longer sentences.  Since school has started, he has also started sitting for stories.  He has been our toughest kid to sit still for books.  Thankfully, all his older siblings enjoying stories, so he see lots of reading.  Speaking of reading, we finished the first book in the Wild Robot series.  The kids got to watch the movie that was made.  We also got book two for fun.  Hyrum has already finished it and I am finding that I am sitting for long periods of time reading to the younger kids, because they want to know happens next.  It's kind of fun to see them get excited.

Speaking of books...Liam is going through a snake and dino phase.  He has discovered the location of these nonfiction books in the library and will pick out several to bring home.  I've learned more about snakes than I have ever cared to know.

Liam ended up coming down with a stomach bug, that lasted for about two days.  He had a really bad night and then for about two days he just laid on the couch saying that his stomach hurt.  I felt really bad for him, because there really isn't much you can do other than let it pass.  He was happy to get Gatorade.  He essentially didn't eat anything for two days.  Unfortunately, he had to miss a stake activity at a lake.  Tim took the older two and I stayed with the younger two.  We tried to make if fun for the younger two, so they got to hang out in the kiddie pool and watch a show.  They seemed to be okay with it, mostly because they didn't have to miss out on eating a brookie.  I saved some for them to eat.

Tim said the lake was really pretty.  The older two talked nonstop about it, so they had lots of fun.  There is a canoe rental that Tim wants to go back and do with the kids.  We will likely try to go back and do that before the baby comes.

We've made it to 29 weeks.  The third trimester snuck up on me.  I'd forgotten how far along I was and had a nice surprise when I check the calendar.  It's funny how the milestones that were so important for the first kids aren't as important now.

Tim has stayed busy with work and his calling.  There is always more to learn and do than there is time in the day.

That's about all from us.  Until next week.
