Our Little Actress!

We had a busier than normal week this week.  We had lots going on with the kids, my projects, and school.  Let's get down to it!

We finished our sixth week of school this week.  It feels crazy that we have already made it that far.  I feel like we have a solid routine and I am please with how well the kids are doing.  I am more confident that we will be able to transition to five kids while maintaining academics.  We finished reading the second book in the Wild Robot series.  The kids have really enjoyed the books.  We will finish the final book probably in the next week.  We started Dr. Dolittle a couple of weeks ago for our school read aloud and the kids have enjoyed that one as well.

Lila participated in a little acting camp this week.  A few teens from the ward did a great job putting together a script and practices for the kids.  I had super low expectations, but they did a wonderful job with helping the kids.  I was super proud of Lila.  If you'd have asked me a year ago if I ever thought Lila would get up on stage in front of people, I would have said nope.  She really loved getting together to practice with the other kids.  She did a great job memorizing her little part and said it beautifully.  She was a maid to a princess.  Afterwards we went to get some ice cream to celebrate how well she did.

The kids continue to struggle with the afternoons.  I've just come to accept that until the heat chills out, our afternoons will be rocky.  They actually went outside to play for an hour today and it was so peaceful inside.  I don't think we have any more overcast days this coming week, so this will probably be it for a couple of weeks.

The kids started up piano lessons again this week.  They seemed to fit right back into classes.  I've been a little lax this summer with practicing, so now I need to get back to it with reminding.  Lila will start up her gymnastics class this coming week.  She is pretty excited about it.  I'm curious to see how she does, because she is a lot like Tim when it comes to picking up athletics.

Tim stayed busy with work and his calling.  We had stake conference and he was asked to provide a brief training on supporting perspective elders.  I stayed busy with canning projects.  We made peach syrup, peach jam, and peach pie filling.  Everything sealed and what we have taste tested so far has been good.  I used pectin for the first time to make the jam and it turned out well.  Tim said he really like it and the kids said they like it as well.  This coming week I am going to make some tomato sauce.  I have been freezing the tomatoes as they ripen.  We haven't had enough ripen at once to do anything.  I ordered a side of beef that we need to make sure there is room in the freezer for it.  I doubt we will have a problem with room, but I don't want to be caught off guard.

That's it for us!  Hope everyone has a great week!
