We all survived the first week of Hyrum's life! That is really exciting considering the only one that really knows what they are doing is mom/grandma. We had lots of firsts this week. We went to his first pediatrician appointment, Hyrum did a number 1 and 2 on our bed, he had a blowout on me, first bath, and his first sneeze. It has been nothing short of a tiring, adventurous week for all of us. Below is a picture from his first bath. It is really hard to catch his facial expressions, but he was giving us one of his half grins. I am biased, but I think it is very cute! We also discovered that his favorite thing to do is stretch. He must of been very cramped, because he loves to stretch out his arms and legs. He won't go to sleep unless the blanket is loose enough for his arms to be out and to fully extend his legs. He will just squirm until he has it just right.
Poor Tim has been trying to study all week, but a new baby is a lot more fun than exams. He took three this week and has four more over the next two weeks. It will be nice to have him officially done with his first year of medical school. Soon after he finishes his classes he will begin shadowing an internal medicine doctor. He is going to try to get a feel for what he would like to focus on this summer. I am hoping that he at least narrows it down, because this will be his last chance to shadow before he does rotations next summer.
We have also noticed some funny things with Hyrum this week. One of them is that some things don't change! We were putting him to bed one night this week and noticed his pose. We have a couple of ultrasound pictures on different weeks with him putting his fist next to his face. It was really funny to see. After we had a laugh we also noticed that he almost doesn't fit in the cradle. When he stretches fully he only has about two inches of wiggle room. He is a long baby!
That is about all from our week. I am surviving with just a few hours of sleep a night (should be interesting going back to work), Tim is doing his best to stay focused, and Mom is keeping us all sane by making sure things run smooth around the house.
Here is to week two!
