I didn't think it possible, but Houston had "winter like" weather. We were down in the 40's for most of the week with rain. We turned on the heat, which didn't happen until January or February last year. Tim and I were still running around in sweaters, but it did make if feel a little more like Christmas.
Tim's exams began last week. He has done well so far and he will finish up on Friday. He is ready for a break. It is hard to believe that we only have one more semester for classwork, then he starts in the hospitals. He spends what little time he has at home studying or playing with Hyrum. He did some home teaching on Sunday and his normal meetings.
I started editing videos for teachers. I am expecting a flood after Christmas break, so it will get very busy. The primary is also getting ready for the new year, which means teacher manuals need to be ready. Some of us went in on Wednesday to start working on things. We are going to continue meeting throughout the break to get things ready for teachers and then to do an overhaul of the primary room and closets. They desperately need it!
Primary also sang for the Christmas program on Sunday. I think we are done with everything until the new year. Speaking of which, we only have a couple of Sundays until we are in 2017. For several years our ward has been meeting at 9 am. Next year the Spanish ward wants to try the 9 am slot, so we will be moving to 11. That should be really interesting because it is right in the middle of lunch time and nap time.
Hyrum has had a busy week learning. He has learned how to wave and clap when we ask him. He has no idea what he is doing, but he will still respond. He doesn't do it all the time, but more and more he is waving and clapping. He also is getting really good with his pincer grasp. We have been giving him Cheerios every day to help him practice. This weekend he finally figured out that he needed to pick up the Cheerios with his pointer and thumb. He has work to do, but at least it is a step in the right direction.
We sit in front of an elderly couple at church. Hyrum is their special buddy...come to think of it he is everyone's special buddy. Pretty sure he has more friends than Tim and I do combined. They brought him a slinky and he has had fun bouncing it all over the place.
I managed to make some Christmas treats this weekend. We bundled up Hyrum on Sunday night and made the rounds to the members in our complex. It was fun to swing by and say Merry Christmas. Our mode of transport for Hyrum has been the wagon. He is typically the envy of all the kids in complex. It's funny to walk by and all the little kids will stop and stare at him as he rolls by in his ride. Not sure if they are jealous or just staring back at Hyrum as he stares at them. Tim will tell you everyone is jealous.
I still have two weeks left of work, but with Tim not studying it will feel like a vacation. I know he is ready for the break. We just need to pull through one more week and we are home free!
