First Week of Rotations

We made it through the first week of surgery.  Tim is exhausted, but excited to be learning and experiencing the different aspects of medicine.  He wakes up at 3 a.m. so that he can get to the hospital by 4:45 a.m.  He gets home any time between 5-7 p.m.  The hospital he is currently at serves a large population of Hispanics, so he has been able to use his Spanish to translate.  He has been able to assist in several surgeries, where he was holding the camera or stitching.  He has yet to be on call during the night, that will come this weekend.

I was able to do some visiting teaching this week and as always keeping up with life.  My adventure this week was taking public transportation to work.  Things didn't work out the way we planned for Tim to get to the hospital, so I took a shuttle and a bus to work.  While it takes three times as long to get to work, it was kind of fun.  I felt very adventurous.

Hyrum continues to keep us on our toes.  He is extremely active and he has the bumps, cuts, bruises, and now a black eye to prove it!  Yep!  That's right...his first shiner.  I got a text from the babysitter this week say that he was running around and feel right on the ottoman.  It wasn't serious, but it is his first.  We tried to get a picture of it, and short of pinning him on the floor this was the best we got.  you can see on the right the bruising under his eye.  Notice his dog pajamas.  He loves the dogs and will say dog and point to dog while he is getting dressed at night and it's one of the first things in the morning he says to us.

Unfortunately, I think we are heading into another less than pleasant stage.  The NO stage.  This weekend he has started saying no to us along with hitting.  Not. Cute.  He is getting very opinionated and when we cut off his exploration or playtime...he will let us have it!  He will chatter his displeasure with us using variety of hostile sounding words.  We do wish we knew what he was saying.

Any who...he is still really cute and fun and eats more than I do, so guess we'll keep him!
