It has been a busy last two weeks. I haven't had the chance to update, so buckle up!
We left off at the Ward Christmas party. Church was sparse, and since Hyrum was runny nose free for several days we took him back to nursery. I wish we didn't, because 48 hours later he ended up with another runny nose. Thank goodness it wasn't too bad and it cleared up pretty much before we left on Friday.
We spent the first part of the week cleaning, cooking, and preparing to leave for a week. Hryum and I did some cooking together using our knew aprons. We did an early Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa Kluber and this was one of the gifts...my personal favorite. And how fitting for the maiden voyage of the aprons to make the Kluber cranberry salad, which is still a favorite of Hyrum's.
Another favorite toy of Hryum's was Tim's Christmas gift. Tim received his very own set of monster trucks. We had some very nice weather so we opened the door and he and Tim played trucks outside. The trucks will get more mileage from Hyrum than Tim. Tim has just enjoyed spending time with Hyrum and vice versa. They don't have a lot of time to spend together during rotations. They have spent lots of father son time playing at the playground, walking, driving cars, and random games that Tim makes up and for some reason are the bees knees!
Friday morning we packed up half our apartment to go to Tim's parents. Gone are the days when Tim and I just had a small bag. We had hopes to take the stroller, but when the last bags were being taking out, Tim said to Hyrum, "Well, you have a choice. We can either take your stroller or your mom." I was happy to be chosen over the stroller!
Upon arriving in Port Neches, Hyrum went directly to the piano. He does love playing tunes! He also spent time scootering and pushing and child size lawn mower. All I am sure are dreams come true because he is always pointing out these things and chattering about them. There were some knew adventures as well. He enjoyed some air time on the tramp and rocking in front of the TV for a football game. The favorite quote was Hyrum coming down for breakfast, but running to the rocker, grabbing a remote, and saying, "Hyrum watch football."
Uncles, aunts, and cousins kept coming in until Sunday. He hadn't had the chance to meet most of them, so it was fun to introduce them. I was able to get better acquainted with everyone as well. It had been a long time since the family was together and I missed the last wedding because of Hyrum.
As Hyrum was the oldest grandchild, Christmas day was very relaxing and thankfully it didn't start before the sun came up. He opened presents and got to look in his stocking. He is still a little lost as to what is happening, but it was still fun to watch him pull out and unwrap gifts.
Tim spent some bro time with his brothers shooting guns and playing volleyball. I opted out of both of these activities. One being because it was too cold to be outside shooting and two I learned the first year of our marriage not to get involved in any sport where there was more than one Zimmerman playing...that is if you value your life.
I spent most of my time slipping in naps (which never happens because it just doesn't when you are alone), playing with toddlers, holding babies, cooking, eating, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. Basically, having a good time.
We said our goodbyes on Thursday and headed back to Houston. We had lots to do to catch up and get ready for the start of rotations. I feel like I have been spoiled having Tim around. He has helped a lot by just playing with Hyrum. It's amazing how much and fast you can get done when you aren't split between your task and a toddler.
There have been a lot of changes in Hyrum in the last two weeks. He finished up his growth spurt and he is now in 3T shirts and 2T pants. He still eats a ton. We have him a wrap which included lettuce, which he has never had, and he gobbled it up. I was really surprised. He continues to learn new words and phrases, picks up different ideas for pretend, and becomes more like a monkey every day.
