Once again I am sadly lacking in the picture department. I managed to catch a cute one of Hyrum, but missed our other cutie all together. Oh well...you win some you loose some.
Let's get started!
Tim did not have any interviews the week of Thanksgiving. He just had clinic for three days...piece of cake! We have not received any new interviews, but only just over half of the programs have sent invitations, so hopefully there are a few more in there for us. Tim does have several interviews scheduled this month. His next is probably the one he is most excited for, North Carolina. The program is really good and the community is a student oriented and all we hear from those that have lived there is that it is great. This is also Tim's last week in clinic for two months. He took off December and January to do his interviews. He will then go back for the rest of the school year to finish off his rotations. It will be nice to have him around when he is around. We made a list of things we can do as a family, so hopefully we can knock a few of those things off before we leave Houston. But, we may be in Houston for a lot longer if we match here, so we may have a lot more time to finish our list than we think.
Hyrum had an enjoyable week playing at home and then partying with cousins. He ran errands with me at the beginning of the week with me and had plenty of playtime. We came in possession of a large box and he had lots of fun playing with it. He enjoyed coloring and then building his house with his tools. Boxes are a great source of entertainment at our house. On Thursday morning we left for Tim's parents. Hyrum did really well in the car either staring out the window or looking at stories. While at Grandma and Grandpa Zimmerman's house he enjoyed eating, playing with cousins outside, going to the park, mowing the lawn (with a play mower), playing with Grandpa's tools, coloring, watching Coco, jumping on the trampoline, and did I mention eating food. I'm pretty sure he went through a growth spurt last week, because he was packing away the food all last week. For instance in one sitting he ate bowl of spaghetti and then he ate Tim's wrap. Tim made the wrap for himself, so it wasn't little.
Oh, and we have had a break through with Hyrum's bedtime. Last week before we left we had some really hard nights with getting him to bed. In trying to figure out what we could do to help him and honestly help ourselves we came across an idea from the Super Nanny. Sounds weird to be getting advice from a TV show, but we figured it couldn't hurt and everything else we tried failed miserably. Basically, the idea is to outlast your child. You stand by the door and calmly walk them back to bed and you do it over and over again. You don't make it a big ordeal, just take them back to bed and tell them it's time for bed and then leave. We tried it the first night and he screamed for about 20 minutes and then he fell asleep. The second night we didn't have any issues and haven't since. I am VERY grateful to have one aspect of his sleeping taken care of. Now we can focus on the other issues like waking up in the middle of the night.
Lila had a good week. She gets more alert every day, which is really exciting. We had an almost laugh from her, so maybe she will figure that out in a few weeks and we can enjoy some baby giggles. She traveled great in the car on our way to Tim's parents. She basically slept the whole way there and back. One major difference between Hyrum and Lila is their ability to fall asleep. Hyrum wasn't very good at falling asleep and he would wake up with the littlest sound and then be awake. Lila falls asleep much easier and if she does jolt awake she will just fall back asleep. She continues to grow like a weed. She is in 3-6/6 month clothes. Her hair is super long and hasn't shown signs of falling out, so perhaps she will keep it. There is a lot of new growth coming in already, so she may have a thick head of hair by six months!
My week started of great! After two weeks of a microwave functioning half the time, we got a new one! Maintenance dropped off a huge box and came shortly after to install and shiny new microwave. I made cranberry salad and rolls for Thanksgiving. Hyrum really liked the salad and I think I am finally figuring out how to make white bread/rolls. Wheat is another story...more on that later. I enjoyed catching up with all the adults and watching the kids. It had been a while since we had seen many of those that came and kids change so much.
All the girls...Lila included...did some Black Friday shopping. I had never been out before. We went during the day, so things were a lot calmer. I didn't think it was that bad and I found Hyrum's Christmas gift 50% off. I would say that is a good deal! Also, included in our Black Friday adventure was a blowout by Lila. We were new the electronics section when we noticed a large spot on Lila's back. Instead of fighting crowds to the front, we found a spot out of the way and changed her by the Christmas books.
Another big, but sad thing for me is my hair start falling out. It happened with Hyrum at four months and is has started for Lila. I had Tim cut off my hair, because it is easier to clean short hair out of drains. He took off a good six inches! It was the longest my hair has been since sophomore year in high school.
Now for the wheat bread. I have decided to start baking our weekly bread, because we have a lot of bread making ingredients thanks to both sets of parents. We have a lot of wheat flour, so I decided to just make wheat bread. It smelled really good, and when Tim tried it he said it tasted good, but he was going to keep his water bottle close while he eats his lunch sandwich. Let's just say that it's edible, but it needs some work. Here's to second and third tries!
This coming week we will get the tree set up for Christmas. This will be Hyrum's first year to really understand what is happening, so it will be fun!
