First Week of Residency

We survived our first week of residency!  There were ups and downs for Tim at the hospital, but overall he is really glad he is at UNC, because they handle the downs really well and it is just a great program.  At home we made it as well.  We managed to stay busy most days, but the 3:30-5 is always the hardest part of the day.

Hyrum continued to practice cutting and reading like crazy.  He got to take his reading log into the library and choose a free book.  He managed to find a Berenstein Bear construction book...go figure.  He also used his imagination plenty and did a few things that I just shake my head.  One of those head shaking moments was when he insisted he needed to cozy up in not one but two blankets.  I guess whatever floats his boat...it's like 90 degrees outside.  He also was feeling the loss of Tim.  I let him stay up a little later on a couple of nights so he could say goodnight to Tim.

Lila has hit another big growth and development period.  I have moved her to 18 month clothes.  They are a little big, but not too big.  I am hoping she will stay in this size until we have a season change.  The second top tooth is so close to coming in.  I was surprised this week when I felt it right under the gum.  I am hoping in the next few days it will come through all the way.  She continues to practice moving and grooving.  We had a three second stand this week and she has been letting go of one hand when we practice walking with her.  She is also discovering cupboards and drawers.  This is not my most favorite stage.  She is still chattering away, hollering loudly.  Sometimes it's a yelling match between the two kids to see who can be the loudest.  It leaves my ears ringing.  We have officially moved to big people food.  She pretty much eats what we eat with some modifications.  It is nice to not be buying baby food, but we sure do go through the watermelon faster!

Friday, Tim had the day off.  He and Hyrum went to find him a pair of shoes and had some fun in the mall.  Apparently, Hyrum is a closet parkour kid.  There was a climbing area for kids and he was all over the place climbing on hands and feet, rolling, diving and falling.  I had not idea.  Lila and I chilled at home.  It was nice to have alone time with her to just let her play.  Hyrum doesn't really like to let her play with anything and is constantly taking toys out of her hands...even when they are hers.  She plays so nicely when he isn't around.

Saturday, Tim was at the hospital.  There was a primary activity that Hyrum was invited to.  It involved water.  He was soaked and had a blast running around with the other kids.

Tim and I have officially been assigned to teach the Valiant 8 class.  It is all girls and right now there are only three.  It should be a lot of fun.  The primary is small over the summer.  I have heard of at least two more families moving in with kids, so that should help to replace some of the kids lost with the seven families that moved out.

We are gearing up for a hard week of nights.  This should be one of the only weeks he will have of nights.  There may be another week or two with ICU or something like that but we will get it over with now and hopefully have more normal hours for most of the rest of his first year.  Well as normal as you can.  Hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July celebrating/giving thanks for our freedoms and the nation we live.
