We officially have a functioning kitchen and car! It is amazing how much stress is eased when things are working. I think I have everything organized in the kitchen. We had to purchase two large shelves to aid in the organizing, but we are making it work. Tim worked some magic on the car and everything is back together. No more tape and string.
While there was plenty going on with the apartment and car, we did manage to get out and enjoy. The weather has been awesome. I keep hearing that it has been unseasonably cool, but I'll take it. Tim has been in the kitchen a lot this week. He is on a pancake kick. We had chocolate, molasses, and regular all with added oats and flax. Some were tastier than others and some were larger than others.
Hyrum had a lot of dad time this week. They worked on the car together, spent many hours at the library, and spent lots of time playing. I was grateful for the break. I think I am still struggling with the time change and the fact that Lila has been waking up in the middle of the night again. I am beginning to suspect that it has to do with teething. Her top teeth look like they might finally be coming in. It will probably be another couple of weeks, but I can see the makings of teeth through the gums.
Our fun adventures included getting our library cards. We also got signed up for the summer reading program. Both Hyrum and I are well on our way to earning rewards. Funny story...the library is close and on the bus route, so we decided to take the bus. Tim punched in "the library" in google and found the route. It took us downtown to a place that didn't look very much like the public library. We don't have data on our phones, so we winged it with guessing, asking, and a little bit of walking to get home. We decided to get in the car and leave the bus ride for another day. Our lesson for the adventure was to be careful that your local community doesn't have a store called "The Library."
We also roasted hot dogs and s'mores. Hyrum has never had them over the fire and we took the chance to do it on one of the days that it didn't rain. He loved both and the fact that he got to play in the water with friends. I also took Hyrum to a play group that is conveniently at the church. He had fun running around with other kids. He also had a close call with poison ivy. We are discovering that it is EVERYWHERE! You can spot it on the side of the road.
Thursday we went to get our driver's licenses taken care of. Houston was always a mess. The lines were terrible you had to travel to opposite sides of the city to take care of your title and registration. Needless to say I was ready for a better experience. Well, I guess we had a better experience in around about way. We showed up to discover that they were changing policies and in order to get the correct license we needed two forms of address. Well, we didn't have that, so we went down to the UPS store and spent three dollars to print a one piece of paper. We went back and the lady said it would be and hour and half wait. I was slightly upset and ready to just leave. The lady said she would bend the rules to make an appointment for the next day. We left and came back the next day, got right in and got our licenses. We then walked down to a different building to get our title and registration. Two days, 500+ dollars, and some headache later, we drove home with licenses, plate, and registration.
While getting our driver's licenses, we overheard that it was free donut day. We Googled local shops that were participating and ran to get some donuts. Success!
We like it when dad is home to play because he comes up with cool ideas. It's a little hard to see, but there is a wrecking ball on the end of the crane. They had some demolition time.
We will have one more week of Tim being around. He begins orientation on Friday. Lila also turns nine months, so it should be another busy/fun week!
