The beginning of our week was pretty normal. Lots of outside time, playing inside, and the normal routine. Our big fun was on Friday...more on that in a bit.
We'll start of with Tim. He started a new rotation, which has kept him busy. He wasn't able to get home in time to see the kids until Thursday. It is sad that he can't see the kids and they seem to be accepting that he isn't home. Hyrum always asks when he will be home and is a little disappointed when I say that he will be home after he goes to bed. We ended up picking Tim up on Thursday and the kids were so excited to see him. He crunched himself in the back and fed them candy all the way home. He was their hero. Hyrum kept saying that he loved candy and that he was so excited for the treats that Tim brought. It was really funny. One more week and he is off for a whole week!
Hyrum has his good and bad moments. He likes to use his agency to do the opposite of what I want him to do. We had a few tantrums this week, but we managed to get through them in one piece. He continues to enjoy preschool and sometimes I will catch him reviewing things he has learned, like the parts of a book. You know you've got it when you can teach it to your stuffed animals.
Lila is enjoying the fruits of her walking labors. She is getting so good at walking that she gets to be out of the stroller. This also means that she gets plenty dirty. Hyrum decided that it would be totally fun to fling dirt at her. You can't see very well, but she has dirt EVERY where. I found a handful of it in her diaper later that day. She is getting really good at pointing and saying her version of that. I also think she is getting really good at understanding. I will say words like milk, water, out, oranges, ball, book, doll, and bear and she will either point to it or go get it. She isn't as verbal as Hyrum, so it should be interesting to see how the communication goes with her. I feel like we skipped a lot of frustration with him because he could tell us what he wanted or what the problem was.
Our most noteworthy days tend to be Tim's day off. Our local temple has been closed for renovations and is opening soon. We wanted to take the kids to the open house. I had been talking with Hyrum all week about it and was concerned we would have problems, because he kept saying that he didn't want to go inside. He is stubborn enough that when he says he doesn't want to do something, we know to tread carefully.
We left after lunch and made it in good time. It wasn't too busy, so we were able to get right in. Tim had to carry Hyrum the whole time, but we didn't have any fits. Luckily, the temple is small. Every small. I was surprised at how tiny it was. We didn't see all the offices, but just walking around it, it looks like it might be smaller than a stake center. Despite the size it is still beautiful and holds just as much meaning and sacredness as any larger temple. We managed to snap a few family pictures. We have been meaning to get family pictures forever.
I was along for the ride with everyone else's adventures. I did however have a cooking adventure. I made chimichangas for the first time. I know Tim will like them when he eats them tonight, but the kids gobbled them up, which was a relief. Mexican food is always hit and miss with us. I did separate our fillings, so the seasonings were right for the kids.
That's all from us. We are excited for General Conference.
