Happy Mother's Day to one and all! Tim did a great job with the kids making it a good day. More on that later.
Tim had clinic this week. They are still doing virtual visits, so it is very different. There are also very few patients, mostly those that just need a refill on prescriptions. He found a quiet place at the hospital to do this, because there was no way quiet was happening at the house. With things calming or at least not getting worse, the hospital is moving towards opening. There are many procedures and in-patient visits that will occur starting this next week. They are gradually getting things going again, but that means Tim's schedule is changing...yet again. He's explained it several times, but I can never remember. I think this coming week he will be doing nights in the Cardiac ICU. He is back to the 7 day schedule instead of the five. He is ready for things to get back to normal. North Carolina started phase one of reopening. It really doesn't change much, except for trying to get as many people back to work as possible meaning daycare centers are opening. Individuals who can work from home are encouraged to continue to do that, but retail stores are at 50% and restaurants are still carry-out only. Some time in the next couple of weeks, Tim has a conference at UNC to discuss being a second year/upper level resident. It is crazy that a year is already gone, but it is exciting.
Hyrum had an exciting week. Preschool is coming along, but sadly almost at an end. He only has about two more weeks until we will be on "summer" break. I have learning activities organized that he will do throughout the summer. I was very proud and he was as well that he read his first book. He did very well and was so excited that it was his book. It is an extremely easy book that he memorizes more than he actually reads. But, that's okay because that is where he is in his reading skill. I also started teaching how to write stories by drawing a picture and then writing the beginning sound of each word in his sentence. He is really excited about that. I am curious to see how he does as he gets better, because he is always telling stories. Any way, super proud of him! He also played outside a lot of this week and a couple of older neighbor boys had compassion on him and played with him. He was on cloud nine with his new friends.
Lila is growing up and talking more every day. We still have trouble understanding her, but some words are becoming clearer like help, up, down, mine, and blanket. We were super shocked this week when she started saying her name, very clearly. She will see herself in a picture, movie, or mirror and say her name. With her other words, she is getting better at using them to let us know what she wants. Instead of coming to us to fuss and hold up her hands to get up, she will come and hold up her hands and say up. Now, if we don't respond within a millisecond she will still fuss, but at least she is using her words. I also find is rather cute how she is dressing up and dressing herself more. Below are a couple of pictures. She put on the crown by herself and the ballet slippers have become a staple every day. The pink hat is also something that she insists that she wears when we go out to play. It's really funny. It's also really funny to watch her put on other people's clothes. She put on Hyrum's and my shorts this week and today she found a pull-up (it was clean) and slipped that on over her clothes and come out.
I stayed busy with the kids and enjoyed being in the second trimester. My days get better and better and some days I don't even think about being pregnant...at least when I am not rushing to use the bathroom, then it all comes back that I have six more months of a tiny badder and it's only going to get worse. I haven't really felt the baby moving, but I do feel pressure like the baby is stretching or pushing. It won't be long as I am almost 15 weeks. Mother's Day was exciting and not to downplay all the hard work, thought and excitement of the day, but there was another event that made my heart go aflutter. I received an email from...drum roll please...the library! We were selected to be part of a pilot program to test out a pick-up system for our public library. We had a couple of things on hold since the library shut down and we will get to go pick them up next week. Hyrum and I were both really excited about it. I hope they get things organized soon, because I am running low on picture books for Hyrum and we could really use some books from the library.
Okay, super exciting library news, but Mother's day was also super exciting. My favorite Tim quote said on Saturday night, "I hope you meant what you said that all you really cared about was not having to cook. Because, well, just remember that and keep your food expectations really low." Tim had the day off and went all out. Partly, because that is his way and partly because my birthday is next week and he will be on nights, so we kind of combined the two. Tim and Hyrum made breakfast. We had french toast with bananas, whipped cream, and chocolate chips. For lunch, we had delicious wraps and snack was probably his best watermelon smoothie to date. They were really good. Dinner was grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was really nice not to have to cook or really clean up at all, because usually I am the lone ranger on parent/house duty 24/7. Everything was delicious and my food expectations were met and surpassed!
Hope everyone had a grand day and week! Until next week.
