And then there was no gas...

I tell you what...things just keep getting crazier and crazier.  We think we are finally getting back to normal and then something else happens.  That something else happened this week as gas stations around us were completely out of gas and what gas was left had long waits.  We were lucky to find a station very close to us that is a little out of the way, so with some waiting we were able to fill up with gas.  Thankfully, stations are starting to get some gas, but the powers that be are saying that it could be several weeks until we are back to normal.  What is normal any way?

Tim had the week off, so we looked for ways to have fun, but still conserve gas.  We were very surprised to find some really fun things that are just a few miles from us.  We started off going to the Children's Museum.  Tim and the kids had gone a while ago when we lived in Chapel Hill and the distance was much further.  A friend invited us to go on her pass, so we drove a few miles down the road to have some fun on a rainy day.  The enjoyed running, climbing, and exploring the wonderful work of insects.

On a warmer day we traveled a few miles in the opposite direction to the Eno river.  We had heard there was a fun area where kids could play and we weren't disappointed.  It was about a foot deep of wonderful water.  Basically, it was a giant puddle with some mud included.  For my kids, it was heaven!  Liam also enjoyed dipping his toes in the water, but mostly the enjoyed the scenery from dad's arms.

I only snapped a picture of one of the parks, but we went to two different parks.  One was in walking distance that we haven't been to before.  It was well shaded and had a super fun little car for the kids to drive.  The other park had lots of climbing and giant slides for the kids to go down.

We also fit in a birthday.  Hyrum asked every day if it was my birthday yet.  He is at the age where he knows what a birthday is and he has figured out the order.  Next up, dad!  Tim took care of the kids in the morning and made biscuits and gravy.  We got pizza for dinner and if we can make it to Illinois next week, Tim promised me a date.

Probably the biggest news this week has to do with Liam.  I'm sure you are sick of hearing about his sleeping difficulties and quite honestly I'm tired of them too (literally).  I finally reached the breaking point earlier this week.  He has really struggled since about two months and I really need more sleep than an 1.5-2 hours at a time.  We spent about three hours going in and out of his bedroom trying to get him to sleep on his own, but he just wouldn't stay asleep.  It was nearing one in the morning and finally I put the pacifier in for the last time, said good night and shut the door.  We were super surprised when about 20 minutes later after some intense screaming that he just went to sleep...for 5 hours!  Ever since then he has been sleeping in about 5-6 hour chunks at night.  I haven't had a sleep chunk like that in months and it is amazing.  It's amazing how much brighter the world is when you get sleep.

In between all this fun, Tim prepared a great talk for Sunday.  He sat on the stand, so it was good practice for me in flying solo with the kids.  He did a great job and the kids lasted through his talk, but not much longer.  I'm pretty sure within a ten minute period Lila launched her snack into the pew in front of us (thank goodness for social distancing),  Liam spit up all over himself, me and the floor, and Hyrum and Lila got pulled out from under the benches.  Hyrum went south and Lila went north, but my mom muscles were able to wrangle them back.  Oh, and Lila went exploring a second time under the benches and managed to make it all the way to bench in front with enough time to loudly proclaim, "Look at me mom, I'm over here!"  It sounds much funnier now as I am writing it, but at the time I was not happy.

We are crossing our fingers and hoping for a little luck that we will be updating from Illinois.  Until then!
