Two Week Update!

It's been two weeks and so much has happened.  We did make it to Illinois to visit my family.  We had a grand visit.  The ride there was a little tense at times.  It was Liam's first road trip.  He didn't to too bad, but sleeping in the car isn't his thing.  We were down to fifteen minutes...he wasn't a happy camper.

The kids had a grand time playing with grandma's toys, the kids kind and the adult kind.  They loved playing with her tools and legos.  They also had a blast riding the mower and taking a bath in the jet tub.  We put in some pink bath salt and they thought it was the greatest thing.

We also took a trip out to see where grandpa works.  Hyrum enjoyed seeing the animals and running around.  Lila not so much.  She likes dogs from a distance, not so much up close.  Tim held her the whole time.  It was interesting to see a different aspect of animal medicine.

We had lots of cute moments.  Hyrum liked holding Liam as he tried water for the first time (more on that later).  There was lots of laughs, giggles, and smiles.  They were super cute and well behaved going to their ward building for church.  I was happily surprised, because we have been in the relearning phase for the past month.  Tim and I even got away for an hour to go on a date.  We tried some amazing Indian food.  We also had some not so great sleeping nights due to Liam.  But, in the end everyone was sad to leave.

For the most part the last two weeks have been a blur.  There have been many firsts that have happened.  Liam went on first first road trip.  He tried water for the first time, and he learned to army crawl.  Thanks to grandma and grandpa's shag rug, he was able to get a good grip and learn how to pull himself and as they say, "the rest is history."  Liam also started sleeping in five hour chunks consistently.  We had some hard nights in Illinois, but something seemed to click and he is sleeping for an hour or two more at night.  No complaints from this mama!

Hyrum went crawfish hunting for the first time.  Tim grew up in southeast Texas and had done it.  I knew it was a southern thing, but I had no idea they could live in a year.  He had a blast getting muddy and fishing for Wally.  It's not a first, but he also a second loose tooth.  He excitedly told us he had a loose tooth, but after checking it we didn't feel it was loose.  However, we did discover a different tooth that was very loose.  Hyrum was super pumped and wiggling his teeth for all he was worth to get lots of money from the tooth fairy.  Between teeth and allowances, the tooth fairy is going to be broke!  Hyrum has really made some great strides reading in the past few weeks.  We had a first for him picking up a more difficult book from the library and just reading it.  I am always surprised at how well he is doing.  He also officially finished up his preschool.  We will have access to the program through the summer and plan to keep him practicing until kindergarten starts.

Lila learned to jump and land on two feet.  She has become the jumping master and does it everywhere.  She also got her first taste of being a backseat helper during a road trip.  She also saw her first puppies.  She wouldn't hold them, but she definitely saw them.

Firsts for me included signing up my first kindergartener.  It was really weird being on the opposite end of the enrollment.  I'm excited for Hyrum, and crossing my fingers he loves it!  I also got the second dose of the Covid shot.  I didn't have any reaction to the first except for a sore arm, but ended up with chills and sore muscles for most of the night.  I can't ever recall feeling achy like that.  The closest I can think is the third trimester, but those aches were focused on the hips, this was the whole body.  I'm very grateful to be over it and that I could sleep it off instead of dealing with it during the day.  As well, I am speaking on Father's day.  I've never been ask to, so it should be interesting.

Tim didn't have many firsts, but he is just a couple weeks away from being a third year.  He is also getting applications ready for fellowship.  It's hard to believe we are back at the interviewing stage again.  He has had some really positive feedback from mentors and we are really hoping that he will be able to stay here for one more year.  It's a great program and we really don't want to move somewhere for just one year.  Tim also will be getting a new calling.

We dealt with some rainy days after getting back.  The kids seemed to adjust quickly to the time change.  We went and explored a park that is a couple miles away from our house.  The kids had fun and it was a great way to kill an afternoon with crazy kids.

Hope everyone has a safe Memorial day!
