Fair Day!

Man.  Let me just start my saying our kids don't know how to smile.  Lila is a little better than Hyrum, but it's so difficult to get them to smile and look at the camera at the same time.  Picture day is coming up for Hyrum and the poor photographer is in for a treat.

The week went by quickly.  The kids were really excited to go to the fair.  Last year they canceled the fair, so it had been two years.  And true to form, Hyrum memory recalled all the little details about rides and food of the fair.

Tim had two interviews this week.  The first was for a program in Florida and the second was for UNC, his current program.  It's not official, but I think UNC may be his number one and from what Tim has told me about the comments from the current director and physicians who work with fellows, he's got a very good chance of getting into the program.  In order to make the interviews he had to do a switch.  He had Sunday and Monday night off and is now working this Sunday and Monday night.  He'll switch into a clinic service for the rest of the week.

I spent a lot of time shuttling Hyrum to and from school this week.  We have a major bus driver shortage here, so when one is out it messes up the whole system.  In order to keep him from being two hours late to school, or getting home two hours after school gets out I took him and picked him up on several days.  Wednesday was a half day and I took him to get new shoes.  Some how he completely wore out the toes on both shoes.  School is rough on shoes!  Nothing major to report on his school.  He is mostly focused on friends and always wants to play with friends.  We are having a hard time drawing a line of what is too much playing.  He expects all kids to be ready to play when he is ready and has trouble dealing with it when they can't play.  There is also the thing where they play too much together and they end up fighting like siblings, which is not good.

Lila had fun with preschool this week.  We did the letter "E" and made some English muffins.  I had made them once before, but tried a different recipe this time.  It was a winner!  Gemma sure knows her stuff!  She has also pretty much perfected her summersault.  She spent a lot of time rolling this week.  We continue to potty train and I am really looking forward to the time when we aren't training and she actually gets it.  She also got to run errands with me this week.  We had an Office Max adventure to get some things printed for the ward.

Eleven months!  Liam is growing up so fast.  True to form for a my kids he was super hard to get a picture of, but we managed one with a smile.  He continues to work on his walking skills.  I noticed this week that his gate became smoother, more like we was walking.  He can stand for several seconds my himself and loves to stand and walk along furniture.  I also pulled the plug on his 10 pm feeding that was happening later and later.  I could tell he really didn't need it, so I let him cry it out one evening.  It was hard, but the second night he called out for about five minutes and he hasn't woken up since.  Now I just need to work on my sleep schedule, because I am so wired for needing to stay up late for when he wakes.  He is getting more vocal and loud.  We always plugged Hyrum during church to help keep him quiet.  Liam just wants to be heard, so he will either throw it out all together or just speak his peace and then pop it back in.  He will not be silenced!  The other kids take his loudness as a cue to be loud too.  Dinners are a very loud affair.

Now to the fair.  We woke up early Saturday morning and made it out almost at the time we wanted to.  We learned a few things from our first trip, so we wanted to get there in time to beat the crowds.  We took the free bus shuttle again.  There really wasn't any crowd, so it was perfect.  The rides were not open as early as we thought, so we headed to see the animals.  We happened to walk in during the pig show.  A gentleman was leading a pig in and made a comment about his pig being an LDS pig and I was so confused.  It took me a minute to realize Tim was wearing a BYU shirt and the gentleman was LDS.  We also saw someone from our ward and then shortly after a different person yelled out, "BYU!"  They're everywhere!  The kids enjoyed all the animals.

But, honestly they were there for the rides.  Hyrum remembered the bumper cars, so Tim took him.  Lila had a blast on the rides and did really well with not being able to go on some of them because she wasn't tall enough.  She is fearless and always had a big grin on her face.

Hyrum also remembered the cotton candy.  We ended with some fair treats, cotton candy and shaved ice.  All the kids were dragging when we left and Liam finally fell asleep as we were waiting to cross the street to leave the fair.

We have lots coming up with Halloween, church, and things for Hyrum's school, so the next two weeks will be a little crazy.  Let's pray I can keep it all straight!
