It was a cooler rainy week. We still had plenty of muggy, hot weather, but we are definitely getting into fall. Tim noticed the leaves changing, and was super excited. This time of year he always remembers coming to interview for residency and just how pretty the trees can be. Unfortunately, the the cooler weather also means the swimming is over for the year. I was hoping to get out one more time, but with the rain, it just didn't happen.
We have officially been in school one month. Hyrum has finished up several units already and it was kind of exciting to see his progress. I think he likes seeing his progress and being able to switch things up with different units and areas of study. Lila continues to enjoy her school. I am slowly implementing knew things for her and adding in art. We will have our first art lesson this coming week. I chose to stick with the basics and focus on routine first, rather than diving in with everything at once.
All the kids had a harder week with behavior. Lila is getting a lot more attitude and we are having to do some serious training with her. Much like Hyrum did that that age...and still does to a certain extent...she thinks she can do what she wants. She is learning a hard lesson that she still has to follow the family rules and mom and dad mean what they say. Consequences are no fun! I am chalking up some of the trouble to the weather. I always noticed my students getting more crazy just before weather came in and once the storm hit, it was like their crazy bubble burst and everything was calm. I'm expecting another harder week as the weather forecast isn't promising.
Our big excitement of the week was Lila turning 4! I've lamented enough about Tim's weekend schedule, that I'm sure you get the picture about it being difficult to plan a Saturday birthday. I prepped a lot of things on Friday night, so that we could do an early birthday breakfast before Tim had to leave. We ended up flipping our lunch and dinner, so that Tim could join for brownies and ice cream before leaving for football.
Amazingly, we were able to fit in birthday presents. We opened them just before Tim had to leave.
Probably her favorite gift so far was a toy microphone. She's really into singing and loves to carry it around singing. We also got her, her own blow dryer. She has thick curly hair that takes a lot more care than I ever spend on my hair.
Because of the early time of breakfast and presents, Liam wasn't actually awake for any of it. He got to join later and enjoyed breakfast with a balloon...because it's the only way to eat sticky waffles.
Tim spent his Saturday doing football. He helped injured high school kids in the morning and went to an NCC University game that evening. He only got rained on a little bit, which was a blessing, because it rained a lot this weekend. This was taken with his co-fellows at UNC and some of the fellows at Duke. The man in maroon is a member of our ward, so they were able to chat during the game.
