Birthday Boy!

Weeks when we have a birthday are always exciting.  This was the first year that Liam really understood the term birthday.  He was very excited about it and it also helped that older siblings were helping him to count down the days.  This was the first time that the older kids expressed a desire to get gifts for a birthday.  It's always tricky finding times where we can do things in secret, but we managed.  Hyrum distracted Liam during his Kuk Sool class and Lila and I made a trip to the Dollar Store.  Hyrum gave specific instructions on what to look for and I think we did okay.

Liam was super excited on Wednesday.  We decided to open presents first thing in the morning before Tim left for work.  He was able to play with new toys all day.

He requested biscuits and gravy for breakfast and pizza for dinner.  He wanted cheese, so the kids got cheese and I experimented with a honey pizza.  I recently saw a recipe for a sausage pizza with honey drizzled on top.  Sounds a little weird, but it's actually really tasty.  His dessert was blue cake and blue frosting.  I think I am going to have to put an end to it.  The kids really don't like white cake.  They will eat a bit on the day off and then they won't eat any more.  Funny Liam story.  We were at the grocery store and it came up that the ice cream we were getting was for Liam's birthday.  The cashier asked how old he was turning to which he replied, "20."  I just shook my head.

The kids continue to move along with their schooling.  You can always tell when it's time for a little break.  They have worked very hard and made so much progress, but you can only go so long before your brain needs a vacation.  Lila surprised us this week with starting to sound out simple words.  She has been writing mom and dad for a while, but she randomly wrote cat and that led to more words.  I'm really excited for the new year, when we start her reading.  Liam has been picking up counting and letters along with the kids.  He also has been working on scissor skills.  This week he cut his shirt, so scissor practicing has been put on hold...again.

Friday we looked at our first house.  It was a nice house, but not the one.  We are finding that photographers can work some crazy square footage magic when they take pictures.  Saturday, Tim and I switched off at the temple doing initiatories.  It was nice to go to the temple.  It's a small one, but very pretty.

Next week will be busy one as we are heading to my parents for Thanksgiving.  We are all looking forward to turkey and cranberry salad!
