A very painful week!

We had another crazy week.  We had lots happening during the day and in the evening.  The weather has been much cooler, which has been great for the kids and the plants.  The kids spent a lot more time playing outside, which meant there was a lot more of, "In or out," and "Don't slam the door!"  I'm sure mom and dad are laughing right now, because those are two direct quotes from my childhood.  My tomatoes are still going strong.  The cherry tomatoes are producing like crazy again.  I am hoping to ripen the last batch of big tomatoes before it officially turns cold.

Poor Liam was pretty miserable this week.  On Monday we found that he had developed poison ivy and he started getting congested.  He brought both home from camping.  The poison ivy continued to spread throughout the week, until he had itchy patches all over his body.  Luckily we had leftover high power itch cream from when Hyrum got into poison ivy in North Carolina.  He did remarkably well and I don't think he woke up in the middle of the night like he normally does with any bites and colds.

Hyrum continues to adjust to his more advanced math.  It's been an difficult for him to have school taking longer.  It's not that he is struggling, but he's learning that more advanced math just takes more time.  He enjoyed Kuk Sool this week as he began learning new forms.  He and Lila will be performing songs for the winter piano show.  Hyrum chose to play the Jurassic Park theme.  He's really good at figuring out he music, but he really struggles with speed.  He loves it loud and fast!  I think we've had a breakthrough.  We've tried helping him slow down, but with the Jurassic theme we talked about how the song helps tell a story and convey feeling.  We spent a lot of time this week being intrepid dinosaur explorers.  I think it finally clicked this week.  Speaking on dinosaurs...he found this whopper in the yard.  Both he and Liam brought in treasures to share.  Liam's just happened to be dead and thrust in my face with no warning.

Lila has chose to do Let It Go from Frozen.  She's very excited to be preforming.  I'm hoping it goes well.  Historically, she hasn't loved being in front of large crowds.  I'm crossing my fingers for a good experience.  She's had more of a desire to cook in the kitchen.  She's been using a training knife for a while and recently, I've started letting her use one of my dull knives.  It's funny to watch her with her new found freedom.

Wednesday we had a homeschool outing to a local learning garden.  It was so hot!  I'm pretty sure I was more excited about it than the kids.  They tried to recruit me for their master gardener class.  I was very tempted, but I don't think I could do it during this season of my life.  But, I do think it will be my empty nester life goal.  Liam didn't want to stay in the stroller.  He enjoyed running around and through all the plants.  They had a fun little children's garden with a mower that he claimed.

He also enjoyed playing soccer with it.  Spoiler...it didn't work well.  Liam also found cool things to play with.  One item was a 12 inch rebar that he thought would be fun to build fence with.  Spoiler...it didn't work well either.  He ended up trying to pound it into the ground manually and slipped.  Mind you all this happened as I was going over to take it away.  He ended up getting himself in the eye.  I thought for sure he got his eye, but the scratch and bruising showed that it caught bone.  It still hurt like crazy, but at least he wasn't blind.

Thursday morning all the rest of the kids woke up with the beginnings of a cold.  I was pretty excited, because it never works out that they all get sick at once.  Hyrum ended up missing his sparring and we opted to skip the ward Halloween party.  Instead we did a movie and ice cream.  I thought it was going to be much harder to convince the kids to skip, but once we said ice cream they were sold.  The Zimmerman blood is strong in the kids.

Our social/business calendar was insane this week.  We had a playdate Monday and Tim had a meeting that evening.  Tuesday we had dance, Kuk Sool, and I went on a walk with a friend.  Wednesday was our garden tour and I went to clean the church, because the weekend was going to be crazy.  Thursday was Kuk Sool again and I went to help a family pack for a move.  Friday was girl's night with a scary movie.  I spent most of the time with either a baby or a pillow covering my face.  Zombies are so scary!  With the kids sick our weekend opened up.  It was just Liam and I at church, because I taught Relief Society.  I feel like next week is going to be just as busy with Halloween.

Here's to making it happen!
