Insects and Lakes!

It was a fun week for our family.  We had a couple of big things going on, which made for some adventuring.  We had a field trip to an insect festival put on by the entomology department of the University of Arkansas.  We also did a mini family getaway.  The getaway was last minute, so I didn't have it built into the schedule.  The kids were great and worked on a little extra every day, so we didn't fall behind.

Tuesday was our field trip day.  It took a bit to get to NW Arkansas, but a short drive was worth it.  The kids enjoyed learning and seeing some different things.  It was really crowded, because it was open to all local schools.  We stayed for a couple of hours and then headed home.  There were some things that I really enjoyed learning about like local plants and bees.

Both boys like playing with the bugs.  We temporarily lost a potato bug up Hyrum's sleeve.  We took off the jacket, turned it inside out, but couldn't find it.  Last minute I saw it tucked in a small part of his cuff.  The bug was returned and all was well.

Liam was the only taker for petting a snake.  He was super brave and stood in line to get a chance.  He acted like it wasn't any big deal.  I just kept looking at its tongue flicking and glad I was further back with a phone to shield me.

Thursday, Tim worked a half day and we left for a small lake community called Carlton Landing.  We picked a rainy weekend, so activities were done between downpours.  We did some hiking and playing at a playground, tasted good food, and enjoyed family time.

We came back on Saturday to more rain.  We've had more rain in the last week than we have had in several months.  The ground is very saturated right now.  The kids are preparing for the primary program.  Lila is doing great.  I think she will even get up on the stand and say her part.  Liam is just along for the ride and Hyrum has an expectation that he is expected to meet.  It should be interesting.  In other Sunday news.  Owen made it 30 minutes without a parent in nursery.  Let's hope it will stick, so mom and dad can get back to class.

Until next week!
