Snow!

Our first week back after a long break went better than expected.  We always have to go back and relearn to get ready first for school instead of playing.  I'm sure that will be something that we struggle with for many years to come.  The kids really do a great job.  I've noticed Hyrum saying more that he doesn't want to do school, which is a first.  He doesn't really put up much of a fuss, but it is interesting that we are just finally seeing that come into our school day.

The biggest event of the week was our first snow.  The kids have been waiting with great anticipation.  We had a fake out last week.  There was a slight chance, but nothing happened.  Liam constantly asked if it was supposed to snow.  I finally told him yes on Thursday, but not before a lot of goofy kids and and high emotions.  Lila is turning into a prankster.  We've had to have some lessons on kind pranks, but this is one that she convinced Liam.  They jumped out of the bedroom striking a pose.  I just shake my head.  The younger boys get roped into a lot of things that one day they might regret.  Until then, it's my sworn duty to document everything.

Other mornings life is just too hard.  Liam had a meltdown about his pants and the fact that they were his fancy pants and he didn't want to wear.  They thoughts were, it doesn't matter, just cover your body so you'll stop screaming about being cold.  The other thought was that he needed to stop spilling his milk every dang morning all over his pants and then he wouldn't run out so fast.  Honestly, as a parent I'm having experiences that I never imagined.  Like choosing my battles...pants or no pants.  I chose no pants, because he stayed in his room quietly, until the laundry was done.  Side note, after about an hour of waiting guess who put on his fancy pants.

The day we have been waiting for came on Thursday.  They weatherman said around noon that snow might start.  The kids finished school at top speed and kept checking out the window.  Liam say if first and ran around yelling that it had started.  Yelling has been his theme this week.  There was lots of excitement and frustration waiting for help with snow clothes.  We finally got everyone bundled up so they could go out and be in the snow.

Thursday wasn't that exciting as the snow hadn't accumulated.  Friday the kids woke up to a massive amount of snow.  Tim ended up canceling clinic, because this is the south.  The office manager asked him earlier in the week if he was going to cancel clinic, he said no.  Later he just had to because everyone else was closing and he wouldn't be able to do anything.  It ended up being a lot of fun.  He spent several hours outside with the kids building a giant fort.

And throwing snow...

They spent a lot of time on Saturday outside as well.  I just sat inside and shelled pecans taking an occasional break to put a glove back on.

No one went anywhere on Friday.  The roads were really bad, but by Saturday they had had a chance to clear roads and the temperatures were up enough to melt snow that I did some shopping.  I have started to shop every two weeks, so we really needed to stock up on food.

Owen continues to surprise us with his language.  He is starting to use three and four word sentences and is becoming more clear.  My favorite phrase is, "I see a book."  My least favorite phrase is, "Don't like it!"  He is really cute and does creative things like creating his own piano stand and bench.  We got his some bigger shoes and he has been dancing around the house in them.

Miss Lila lost another tooth.  She has become the tooth pulling queen.  A tooth was really wiggly and she asked my opinion if I thought it was loose enough.  I said maybe and a couple of minutes later she came out declaring that she remembered to plug the sink this time.  The tooth fairy also remembered this time, so that was a relief.

My back is almost back to normal.  It's been a wake up to take better care of my back.  I didn't like not being about to lift and move and the kids didn't like it either, because they had to do so much work!  My big project this coming week is to make lemonade concentrate.  I've already juiced 18 pounds of lemons and have the blisters to prove it!

Until then!
